As long as you Submit to the Imam

Thiqat al-Islam Abu Ja'far Muhammad Ibn Ya'qub al-Kuleyni (†941) :

7- Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa and al-Hassan ibn Mahbub both from Sama’a : “I asked Abu ‘Abdallah (a.s.) about a man who was opposed by two people of his own faith in an issue that they both narrated. One of them said it to be obligatory and the other said it was prohibited. How it can be solved?” The Imam replied, “He must wait until he finds one who would inform him and until then he is not under any pressure.” In another narration it says, “Whichever answer he follows in submission for his ease.” [Usul al-Kafi, Volume 1, Page 66]

7 - علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه، عن عثمان بن عيسى، والحسن بن محبوب جميعا عن سماعة، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: سألته عن رجل اختلف عليه رجلان من أهل دينه في أمر كلاهما يرويه: أحدهما يأمر بأخذه والآخر ينهاه عنه، كيف يصنع؟

فقال: يرجئه (2) حتى يلقي من يخبره، فهو في سعة حتى يلقاه، وفي رواية أخرى بأيهما أخذت من باب التسليم وسعك (3).

Grading:

Allamah al-Majlissi: Hassan or Muwathaq حسن أو موثق [Mirat al-Uqul, Volume 1, Page 218]

Behbudi: Sahih. [Sahih al-Kafi, Volume 1, Page 10]

al-Shaykh al-Tusi (†941) :

3. And from al-Abbas b. Ma’ruf from Ali b. Mahziyar who said: I read in a letter of Abdallah b. Muhammad to Abi al-Hasan (as)  [the following]: our fellows have differed in their narration from Abi Abdillah (as) in regards the two units of Fajr whilst travelling, some of them narrated ‘pray them in your litter’ while others narrated ‘do not pray them except stationary on the ground’ so inform me what you personally do so that I can follow you in it? he wrote: Whichever is accommodating for you to act by." [Tahdhib al-Ahkam, Volume 3, Page 250-251]

92 - عنه عن العباس بن معروف عن علي بن مهزيار قال: قرأت في كتاب لعبد الله بن محمد إلى أبي الحسن عليه السلام اختلف أصحابنا في رواياتهم عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام في ركعتي الفجر في السفر فروى بعضهم ان صلهما في المحمل، وروى بعضهم ان لا تصلهما إلا على الأرض فاعلمني كيف تصنع أنت لأقتدي بك في ذلك؟ فوقع عليه السلام: موسع عليك بأية عملت.

Commentary:

Thiqat al-Islam al-Kuleyni: "We do not find any thing better and more precautionary than to refer to the Scholar (as) and accept that which is within the limit of his (as) words, "Whichever you would follow in submission is excusable for you." [Introduction of al-Kafi]

ولا نجد شيئا أحوط ولا أوسع من رد علم ذلك كله إلى العالم عليه السلام وقبول ما وسع من الامر فيه بقوله عليه السلام: " بأيما أخذتم من باب التسليم وسعكم ".
