The Ghulat of Rijal al-Najashi

1. ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Aṣamm al-Mismaʿī (عبد الله بن عبد الرحمن الأصم المسمعي)

566 - ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Aṣamm al-Mismaʿī was from Baṣrah. He was weak, a Ghālī, and of no account. He narrated from Mismaʿ Kurdīn and others. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 566]

عبد الله بن عبد الرحمن الأصم المسمعي بصري، ضعيف غال ليس بشئ. روى عن مسمع كردين وغيره.




2. ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Qāsim al-Ḥārithī (عبد الله بن القاسم الحارثي)

593 - ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Qāsim al-Ḥārithī was weak and a Ghālī. He had accompanied Muʿāwiya ibn ʿAmmār, but then became confused in his affairs and separated from him. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 593]

عبد الله بن القاسم الحارثي ضعيف، غال، كان صحب معاوية بن عمار ثم خلط وفارقه.




3. ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Qāsim al-Ḥaḍramī (عبد الله بن القاسم الحضرمي)

594 - ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Qāsim al-Ḥaḍramī, known as al-Baṭal, was a liar and a Ghālī. He narrated from the Ghulāt. There was no good in him, and his narrations were not to be given consideration. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 594]

عبد الله بن القاسم الحضرمي المعروف بالبطل، كذاب، غال، يروى عن الغلاة، لا خير فيه، ولا يعتد بروايته.




4. ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad Abū al-Qāsim al-Kūfī (علي بن أحمد أبو القاسم الكوفي)

691 - ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad, Abū al-Qāsim al-Kūfī, was a man from Kūfah who claimed to belong to the family of Abū Ṭālib. Toward the end of his life, he adopted ghulūw, and his doctrine became corrupt. He authored many books, most of which contained corrupt material.

The Ghulāt claimed exalted spiritual ranks for this man. Al-Sharīf Abū Muḥammad al-Muḥammadī, may God have mercy on him, mentioned that he had seen him. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 691]

علي بن أحمد أبو القاسم الكوفي، رجل من أهل الكوفة كان يقول: إنه من آل أبي طالب، و غالفي اخر أمره وفسد مذهبه وصنف كتبا كثيرة أكثرها على الفساد.

وهذا الرجل تدعى له الغلاة منازل عظيمة، وذكر الشريف أبو محمد المحمدي رحمه الله أنه رآه.





5. Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Ibrāhīm Abū Sumayna (محمد بن علي بن إبراهيم أبو سمينة)

894 - Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Mūsā, Abū Jaʿfar al-Qurashī, was a money changer and the nephew of Khālid al-Muqriʾ, who was Khālid ibn ʿĪsā. Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī was known as Abū Sumayna.

He was extremely weak, corrupt in belief, and could not be relied upon in anything. He had come to Qumm after becoming notorious for lying in Kūfah. He stayed with Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿĪsā for some time, but then became notorious for ghulūw, so Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿĪsā rejected him and expelled him from Qumm. There is a story concerning this. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 894]

محمد بن علي بن إبراهيم بن موسى أبو جعفر القرشي موالهم، صيرفي، ابن أخت خالد المقرئ، وهو خالد بن عيسى، وكان يلقب محمد بن علي أبا سمينة، ضعيف جدا، فاسد الاعتقاد، لا يعتمد في شئ. وقد اشتهر بالكذب بالكوفة - وكان ورد قم ونزل على أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى مدة - ثم تشهر بالغلو، فجفي وأخرجه أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى عن قم، وله قصة.




6. Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Shammūn (محمد بن الحسن بن شمون)

899 - Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Shammūn, Abū Jaʿfar al-Baghdādī, was initially a Wāqifī and subsequently became a Ghālī. He was extremely weak and corrupt in doctrine. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 899]

محمد بن الحسن بن شمون أبو جعفر بغدادي، واقف، ثم غال، وكان ضعيفا جدا، فاسد المذهب.





7. Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Mihrān (محمد بن عبد الله بن مهران)

942 - Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Mihrān, Abū Jaʿfar al-Karkhī, descended from non-Arabs. He was a Ghālī, a liar, and corrupt in doctrine, and the narrations concerning this are well known. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 942]

محمد بن عبد الله بن مهران أبو جعفر، الكرخي من أبناء الأعاجم، غال، كذاب، فاسد المذهب، والحديث مشهور بذلك.




8. Naṣr ibn Ṣabbāḥ (نصر بن صباح)

1149 - Naṣr ibn Ṣabbāḥ, Abū al-Qāsim al-Balkhī, was extremist in his doctrine (Ghālī al-madhhab). [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 1149]

نصر بن صباح أبو القاسم البلخي غال المذهب.




9. Al-Ḥusayn ibn Yazīd al-Nawfalī (الحسين بن يزيد النوفلي)

77 - Al-Ḥusayn ibn Yazīd ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Malik al-Nawfalī, Abū ʿAbd Allāh, was from Kūfah. He was a poet and a man of letters. He resided in Rayy and died there.

A group of the Qummīs said that he became a Ghālī toward the end of his life. God knows best. But we have not seen any narration from him indicating this. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 77]

الحسين بن يزيد بن محمد بن عبد الملك النوفلي نوفل النخع موالهم كوفي أبو عبد الله. كان شاعرا أديبا وسكن الري ومات بها، وقال قوم من القميين إنه غال في آخر عمره والله أعلم، وما رأينا له رواية تدل على هذا.



10. Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿUbayd Allāh al-Saʿdī (الحسين بن عبيد الله السعدي)

86 - Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿUbayd Allāh al-Saʿdī, Abū ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Sahl, was among those criticized and accused of ghulūw. He possessed books containing sound hadith. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 86]

الحسين بن عبيد الله السعدي أبو عبد الله ابن عبيد الله بن سهل ممن طعن عليه ورمي بالغلو. له كتب صحيحة الحديث.





11. Al-Ḥasan ibn Khurzādh (الحسن بن خرزاذ)

87 - Al-Ḥasan ibn Khurzādh was from Qumm and narrated many traditions. He possessed a book concerning the names of the Messenger of God, blessings be upon him and his progeny, and a book concerning temporary marriage (mutʿa). It was said that he became a Ghālī toward the end of his life. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 87]

الحسن بن خرزاذ قمي كثير الحديث له كتاب أسماء رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله، وكتاب المتعة، وقيل إنه غالفي آخر عمره.




12. Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn Saʿīd (أحمد بن الحسين بن سعيد)

183 - Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn Saʿīd ibn Ḥammād ibn Saʿīd ibn Mihrān, Abū Jaʿfar al-Ahwāzī, known as Dandān, was a client of ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn, peace be upon him.

He narrated from all the teachers of his father, except Ḥammād ibn ʿĪsā, according to the claim of our Qummī companions. They declared him weak and said: He is a Ghālī, and his narrations are sometimes recognized and sometimes rejected. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 183]

أحمد بن الحسين بن سعيد بن حماد بن سعيد بن مهران، مولى علي بن الحسين عليه [عليهما] السلام، أبو جعفر الأهوازي، الملقب دندان، روى عن جميع شيوخ أبيه إلا حماد بن عيسى فيما زعم أصحابنا القميون، وضعفوه وقالوا: هو غال وحديثه يعرف وينكر.



13. Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Sayyār al-Sayyārī (أحمد بن محمد بن سيار السياري)

192 - Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Sayyār, Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Kātib, was from Baṣrah. He was among the scribes of the Ṭāhir family during the time of Abū Muḥammad, peace be upon him, and was known as al-Sayyārī.

He was weak in hadith, corrupt in doctrine, rejected in transmission, and narrated many mursal reports. Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿUbayd Allāh mentioned this to us.

He possessed several books that reached us, including Thawāb al-Qurʾān, al-Ṭibb, al-Qirāʾāt, al-Nawādir, and al-Ghārāt.

Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿUbayd Allāh informed us, and Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Qazwīnī likewise informed us, through Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā, from his father, who said: Al-Sayyārī narrated to us, except for what contained ghulūw and confusion. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 192]

أحمد بن محمد بن سيار أبو عبد الله الكاتب، بصري، كان من كتاب ال طاهر في زمن أبي محمد عليه السلام. ويعرف بالسياري، ضعيف الحديث، فاسد المذهب، ذكر ذلك لنا الحسين بن عبيد الله. مجفو الرواية، كثير المراسيل.

له كتب وقع إلينا منها: كتاب ثواب القران، كتاب الطب، كتاب القراءات، كتاب النوادر، كتاب الغارات، أخبرنا الحسين بن عبيد الله قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن يحيى وأخبرنا أبو عبد الله القزويني قال: حدثنا أحمد بن محمد بن يحيى، عن أبيه قال: حدثنا السياري، إلا ما كان من غلو وتخليط.




14. Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī al-Rāzī al-Khaḍīb al-Iyādī (أحمد بن علي الرازي الخضيب الأيادي)

240 - Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī, Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Rāzī al-Khaḍīb al-Iyādī. Our companions said that he was not of much standing. It was said that he possessed ghulūw and doctrinal elevation (taraffuʿ). [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 240]

أحمد بن علي أبو العباس الرازي الخضيب الأيادي، قال أصحابنا: لم يكن بذاك، وقيل: فيه غلو و ترفع.




15. Rabīʿ ibn Zakariyyā al-Warrāq (ربيع بن زكريا الوراق)

434 - Rabīʿ ibn Zakariyyā al-Warrāq was from Kūfah. He was criticized for ghulūw, and he possessed a book containing confused material. This was mentioned by Abū al-ʿAbbās ibn Nūḥ. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 434]

ربيع بن زكريا الوراق كوفي، طعن عليه بالغلو، له كتاب فيه تخليط، ذكر ذلك أبو العباس بن نوح.





16. Sulaymān ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Daylamī (سليمان بن عبد الله الديلمي)

482 - Sulaymān ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Daylamī, Abū Muḥammad, was said to have originated from Bajīlah in Kūfah. He traded in Khurāsān, frequently buying captives from Daylam and transporting them to Kūfah and elsewhere, which is why he was called al-Daylamī.

He was criticized, and it was said that he was a Ghālī and a liar. The same criticism concerned his son Muḥammad, and their narrations transmitted independently should not be relied upon. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 482]

سليمان بن عبد الله الديلمي أبو محمد، قيل: إن أصله من بجيلة الكوفة وكان يتجر إلى خراسان و يكثر شراء (شرى) سبي الديلم ويحملهم إلى الكوفة وغيرها فقيل: الديلمي. غمز عليه، وقيل: كان غاليا كذابا. وكذلك ابنه محمد لا يعمل بما انفردا به من الرواية.




17. Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Daylamī (محمد بن سليمان بن عبد الله الديلمي)

482 - Concerning Sulaymān ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Daylamī, it was said that he was a Ghālī and a liar. His son Muḥammad was likewise criticized, and what either of them narrated independently should not be acted upon. Sulaymān possessed a book entitled Yawm wa-Layla, narrated from him by his son Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 482]

سليمان بن عبد الله الديلمي أبو محمد، قيل: إن أصله من بجيلة الكوفة وكان يتجر إلى خراسان و يكثر شراء (شرى) سبي الديلم ويحملهم إلى الكوفة وغيرها فقيل: الديلمي. غمز عليه، وقيل: كان غاليا كذابا. وكذلك ابنه محمد لا يعمل بما انفردا به من الرواية. له كتاب يوم وليلة، يرويه عنه ابنه محمد بن سليمان.

987 - Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Daylamī was extremely weak and could not be relied upon in anything. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 987]

محمد بن سليمان بن عبد الله الديلمي ضعيف جدا لا يعول عليه في شئ.






18. Sahl ibn Ziyād al-Ādamī al-Rāzī (سهل بن زياد الآدمي الرازي)

490 - Sahl ibn Ziyād, Abū Saʿīd al-Ādamī al-Rāzī, was weak in hadith and was not considered reliable.

Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿĪsā testified against him concerning ghulūw and lying and expelled him from Qumm to Rayy, where he resided.

He corresponded with Abū Muḥammad al-ʿAskarī, peace be upon him, through Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd al-ʿAṭṭār, in the middle of Rabīʿ al-Ākhir in the year 255 AH.

This was mentioned by Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī ibn Nūḥ and Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥusayn, may God have mercy on them. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 490]

سهل بن زياد أبو سعيد الادمي الرازي كان ضعيفا في الحديث، غير معتمد فيه. وكان أحمد بن محمد بن عيسى يشهد عليه بالغلو والكذب وأخرجه من قم إلى الري وكان يسكنها، وقد كاتب أبا محمد العسكري عليه السلام على يد محمد بن عبد الحميد العطار للنصف من شهر ربيع الاخر سنة خمس وخمسين ومائتين. ذكر ذلك أحمد بن علي بن نوح وأحمد بن الحسين رحمهما الله.




19. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Ḥammād (عبد الرحمن بن أبي حماد)

633 - ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Ḥammād, Abū al-Qāsim, was a money changer from Kūfah who moved to Qumm and settled there. He was associated with the house of Aḥmad ibn Abī ʿAbd Allāh al-Barqī. He was accused of weakness and ghulūw. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 633]

عبد الرحمن بن أبي حماد أبو القاسم، كوفي، صيرفي، انتقل إلى قم وسكنها، وهو صاحب دار أحمد بن أبي عبد الله البرقي، رمي بالضعف والغلو.





20. ʿAlī ibn Ḥassān ibn Kathīr al-Hāshimī (علي بن حسان بن كثير الهاشمي)

660 - ʿAlī ibn Ḥassān ibn Kathīr al-Hāshimī, a client of al-ʿAbbās ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-ʿAbbās, was extremely weak. Some of our companions counted him among the Ghulāt. He was corrupt in belief and possessed a book entitled Tafsīr al-Bāṭin, which was entirely filled with confusion. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 660]

علي بن حسان بن كثير الهاشمي مولى عباس بن محمد بن علي بن عبد الله بن العباس، ضعيف جدا، ذكره بعض أصحابنا في الغلاة، فاسد الاعتقاد له كتاب تفسير الباطن، تخليط كله.




21. ʿAlī ibn al-ʿAbbās al-Jarādhīnī al-Rāzī (علي بن العباس الجراذيني الرازي)

668 - ʿAlī ibn al-ʿAbbās al-Jarādhīnī al-Rāzī was accused of ghulūw and criticized, and he was extremely weak. He possessed a book entitled al-Ādāb wa-l-Murūʾāt and another entitled al-Radd ʿalā al-Salmāniyya, a group of the Ghulāt. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 668]

علي بن العباس الجراذيني الرازي، رمي بالغلو وغمز عليه، ضعيف جدا، له كتاب الآداب و (المروات)، وكتاب الرد على السلمانية - طائفة من الغلاة -.




22. Muḥammad ibn Ūrama (محمد بن أورمة)

891 - Muḥammad ibn Ūrama, Abū Jaʿfar al-Qummī, was mentioned by the Qummīs, who criticized him and accused him of ghulūw, to the point that they sent someone to assassinate him. However, they found him praying throughout the night, from its beginning until its end, and therefore suspended their judgment against him.

A group of the Qummī scholars transmitted from Ibn al-Walīd that he said: Muḥammad ibn Ūrama was criticized for ghulūw. Whatever is found in his books that is also present in the books of al-Ḥusayn ibn Saʿīd and others may be accepted, but whatever he transmitted independently should not be relied upon.

Some of our companions also said that they saw a written communication (tawqīʿ) from Abū al-Ḥasan the Third, peace be upon him, addressed to the people of Qumm concerning Muḥammad ibn Ūrama, declaring him innocent of what he had been accused of.

His books are sound, except for a book attributed to him entitled Tafsīr al-Bāṭin, which contains confused material. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 891]

محمد بن أوربمة أبو جعفر القمي ذكره القميون وغمزوا عليه ورموه بالغلو حتى دس عليه من يفتك به، فوجده يصلي من أول الليل إلى آخره فتوقفوا عنه. وحكى جماعة من شيوخ القميين عن ابن الوليد أنه قال: محمد بن أورمة طعن عليه بالغلو، وكل (فكل) ما كان في كتبه مما وجد في كتب الحسين بن سعيد وغيره فقل به، وما تفرد به فلا تعتمده، وقال بعض أصحابنا: إنه رأى توقيعا من أبي الحسن الثالث عليه السلام إلى أهل قم في معنى محمد بن أورمة وبراءته مما قذف به. وكتبه صحاح، إلا كتابا ينسب إليه، ترجمته تفسير الباطن، فإنه مخلط.





23. Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn Saʿīd al-Ṣāʾigh (محمد بن الحسين بن سعيد الصائغ)

900 - Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn Saʿīd al-Ṣāʾigh was from Kūfah and resided among Banū Dhuhl. He was known as Abū Jaʿfar and was extremely weak. It was said that he was a Ghālī. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 900]

محمد بن الحسين بن سعيد الصائغ كوفي، ينزل في بني ذهل أبو جعفر ضعيف جدا. قيل: إنه غال.




24. Muḥammad ibn Mūsā ibn ʿĪsā al-Hamdānī (محمد بن موسى بن عيسى الهمداني)

904 - Muḥammad ibn Mūsā ibn ʿĪsā, Abū Jaʿfar al-Hamdānī al-Sammān, was declared weak by the Qummīs on account of ghulūw. Ibn al-Walīd used to say that he fabricated hadith. God knows best.

He possessed a book entitled Mā Ruwiya fī Ayyām al-Usbūʿ and another entitled al-Radd ʿalā al-Ghulāt.

Ibn Shādhān informed us, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā, from his father, from him, concerning his books. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 904]

محمد بن موسى بن عيسى أبو جعفر الهمداني السمان، ضعفه القميون بالغلو، وكان ابن الوليد يقول: إنه كان يضع الحديث، والله أعلم. له كتاب ما روي في أيام الأسبوع، وكتاب الرد على الغلاة. أخبرنا ابن شاذان، عن أحمد بن محمد بن يحيى، عن أبيه عنه بكتبه.




25. Muḥammad ibn Aslam al-Ṭabarī al-Jabalī (محمد بن أسلم الطبري الجبلي)

999 - Muḥammad ibn Aslam al-Ṭabarī al-Jabalī, Abū Jaʿfar, was originally from Kūfah and used to trade in Ṭabaristān. It was said that he was a Ghālī. His narrations were corrupt, and he narrated from al-Riḍā, peace be upon him. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 999]

محمد بن أسلم الطبري الجبلي أبو جعفر، أصله كوفي، كان يتجر إلى طبرستان، يقال إنه كان غاليا، فاسد الحديث، روى عن الرضا عليه السلام.




26. Ibrāhīm ibn Yazīd al-Makfūf (إبراهيم بن يزيد المكفوف)

40 - Ibrāhīm ibn Yazīd al-Makfūf was weak. It was said that his doctrine contained irtifāʿ (doctrinal elevation). He possessed a book. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 40]

إبراهيم بن يزيد المكفوف ضعيف يقال أن في مذهبه ارتفاعا، له كتاب.




27. Khaybarī ibn ʿAlī al-Ṭaḥḥān (خيبري بن علي الطحان)

408 - Khaybarī ibn ʿAlī al-Ṭaḥḥān was from Kūfah and was weak in doctrine. Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥusayn mentioned this. It was said that his doctrine contained irtifāʿ. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 408]

خيبري بن علي الطحان كوفي، ضعيف في مذهبه، ذكر ذلك أحمد بن الحسين، يقال في مذهبه ارتفاع.



28. ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khidāsh al-Mahrī (عبد الله بن خداش المهري)

604 - ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khidāsh, Abū Khidāsh al-Mahrī, was extremely weak, and his doctrine contained irtifāʿ. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 604]

عبد الله بن خداش أبو خداش المهري ضعيف جدا، وفي مذهبه ارتفاع.





29. ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Abī Zayd al-Anbārī, Abū Ṭālib (عبيد الله بن أبي زيد الأنباري أبو طالب)

617 - ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Abī Zayd Aḥmad ibn Yaʿqūb ibn Naṣr al-Anbārī, Abū Ṭālib, was one of our scholars. He was trustworthy in hadith and knowledgeable concerning it. He had formerly belonged to the Wāqifa.

Abū Ghālib al-Zurārī said: I knew Abū Ṭālib for most of his life as a Wāqifī, associating with the Wāqifa. Then he returned to Imāmism, although our companions distanced themselves from him. He was devoted in worship and humility.

Abū al-Qāsim ibn Sahl al-Wāsiṭī al-ʿAdl used to say: I have never seen a man more devoted in worship, more evidently ascetic, cleaner in clothing, or more adorned with virtue than Abū Ṭālib. He feared that the people of Wāsiṭ might witness his prayers and recognize his deeds, so he would withdraw to deserted places, churches, and places of worship. When they found him, he was in a most beautiful state of prayer and supplication.

Yet our Baghdādī companions used to accuse him of irtifāʿ. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 617]

عبيد الله بن أبي زيد أحمد بن يعقوب بن نصر الأنباري شيخ من أصحابنا، يكنى أبا طالب، ثقة في الحديث، عالم به، كان قديما من الواقفة. قال أبو عبد الله الحسين بن عبيد الله: قال أبو غالب الزراري كنت أعرف أبا طالب أكثر عمره واقفا مختلطا بالواقفة، ثم عاد إلى الإمامة وجفاه أصحابنا، و كان حسن العبادة والخشوع.

وكان أبو القاسم بن سهل الواسطي العدل يقول: ما رأيت رجلا كان أحسن عبادة ولا أبين زهادة ولا أنظف ثوبا ولا أكثر تحليا من أبي طالب. وكان يتخوف من عامة واسط أن يشهدوا صلاته ويعرفوا عمله، فينفرد في الخراب والكنائس والبيع. فإذا عثروا به وجد على أجمل حال من الصلاة والدعاء. وكان أصحابنا البغداديون يرمونه بالارتفاع.





30. Muḥammad ibn Baḥr al-Rahnī (محمد بن بحر الرهني)

1044 - Muḥammad ibn Baḥr al-Rahnī, Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Shaybānī, resided in Narmāshīr in the region of Kirmān.

Some of our companions said that his doctrine contained irtifāʿ. However, his narrations are close to being sound. I do not know on what basis this accusation was made. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 1044]

محمد بن بحر الرهني أبو الحسين الشيباني ساكن نرماشير من أرض كرمان. قال بعض أصحابنا: إنه كان في مذهبه ارتفاع، وحديثه قريب من السلامة. ولا أدري من أين قيل ذلك.




31. Mūsā ibn Jaʿfar al-Kumaydhānī (موسى بن جعفر الكميذاني)

1077 - Mūsā ibn Jaʿfar al-Kumaydhānī, Abū ʿAlī, was from a village near Qumm. He was elevated in speech (murtafiʿ al-qawl) and weak in hadith. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 1077]

موسى بن جعفر الكميذاني أبو علي من قرية من قرى قم. كان مرتفعا في القول، ضعيفا في الحديث.




32. Dāwūd ibn Kathīr al-Raqqī (داود بن كثير الرقي)

410 - Dāwūd ibn Kathīr al-Raqqī was called Abū Sulaymān, while his father Kathīr was called Abū Khālid. He was extremely weak, and the Ghulāt narrated from him. Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid said: I have rarely seen a sound narration from him. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 410]

داود بن كثير الرقي وأبوه كثير يكنى أبا خالد، وهو يكنى أبا سليمان. ضعيف جدا، و الغلاة تروي عنه. قال أحمد بن عبد الواحد: قل ما رأيت له حديثا سديدا.




33. Al-Mufaḍḍal ibn ʿUmar al-Juʿfī (المفضل بن عمر الجعفي)

1112 - Al-Mufaḍḍal ibn ʿUmar al-Juʿfī, Abū ʿAbd Allāh, also said to be called Abū Muḥammad, was from Kūfah. He was corrupt in doctrine, inconsistent in transmission, and of no consideration. It was said that he was a Khaṭṭābī.

Several works were attributed to him, but they could not be relied upon. We have mentioned him only in accordance with the condition established earlier. [Rijal al-Najashi, Entry 1112]

مفضل بن عمر أبو عبد الله وقيل أبو محمد، الجعفي، كوفي، فاسد المذهب، مضطرب الرواية، لا يعبأ به. وقيل إنه كان خطابيا. وقد ذكرت له مصنفات لا يعول عليها. وإنما ذكرنا [ه] للشرط الذي قدمناه.
