Ja'far bin al-Hussein has narrated to us from Muhammad bin Ja'far al-Maudab from Ahmad bin Abi Abdallah al-Barqi, from Abi al-Hussein Salih bin Abi Hamad, from Muhammad bin al-Husayn bin Abi al-Khattab from Muhammad bin Sinan from Abi al-Jarud from al-Asbagh bin Nubata, he (Abi al-Jarud) said: I said to Asbagh: what was the status of this man [i.e. Ali] among you? He said: I don’t know what you are asking - except that our swords were on our shoulders so whomsoever he (a.s.) would point at we would strike him down with them.
[al-Ikhtisas, Page 72-73]حدثنا جعفر بن الحسين، عن محمد بن جعفر المؤدب، عن أحمد بن أبي عبد الله البرقي، عن أبي الحسين صالح بن أبي حماد، عن محمد بن الحسين بن أبي الخطاب، عن محمد بن سنان، عن أبي الجارود، عن الأصبغ بن نباتة قال: قلت للأصبغ ما كان منزلة هذا الرجل (2) فيكم؟ فقال: ما أدري ما تقول إلا أن سيوفنا كان على عواتقنا ومن أومأ إليه ضربناه.
